Discover a World of Zen at Home

Life is about to get a little bit fancier. Step aside staycation and make room for the all-new wellness sabbatical. One key difference between the two is that a wellness sabbatical, which we’ll refer to as WS, accommodates your work schedule, albeit remotely.

Travel restrictions and social distancing have put the kybosh on globetrotting to lush and exotic destinations, but there’s no reason you can’t turn your own home into a place of tranquility; your very own zen den, perhaps?

Pedim Yoga

It’s an answer to the burnout you’ve been experiencing while allowing you to stay on top of work priorities. The big difference is that you’re blending meditation, detox, spirituality, and fitness into your daily routine.

Ideally, you’d take 21 days to immerse yourself in this WS routine, but we all know that life and responsibilities can trump our serenity desire. It’s completely fine if you can only dedicate a couple of days to your WS, if not applying aspects of your WS to your daily routine.

A WS is a great way to hit the reset button on life, helping you through anxiety, life changes, and grief. It may give you the balance and quiet time needed to renegotiate the troubled waters of life. Here are some simple activities you can incorporate into your day:

Try Some Simple Yoga Poses

Start your day with some simple yoga poses, like the tree pose. It’s a great way to cultivate balance, strengthen your legs, and get you mentally prepared. Hold the pose for a minute or two on each leg. If you’ve had a rough night, stay on your back with your arms to your side, and take deep breaths. Stay true to yourself and stay within your comfort zone.

Meditation

Meditation can help you manage stress, ease pain, and improve sleep, and takes some practice. Simply find a quiet area to rest, with your favorite pillow or blanket. Take off restricting clothing and remove distractions. Next, follow these steps:

  1. Set a timer for 2 to 5 minutes
  2. Sit or lay down
  3. Breathe normally in and out
  4. Let thoughts naturally flow
  5. If your mind wanders, focus on your breath
  6. Be patient and kind to yourself

There’s no right or wrong way to meditate. There are a ton of resources online, and if you’re looking for a guided meditation, click here. It takes time to establish a routine and get comfortable with your thoughts.

Juicing to Cleanse

Juicing is a great way to get the nutrients you need for optimal health. You can pick up a pretty good juicer for under $100, and once you taste fresh juice, there’s no going back.

According to the Mayo Clinic, by drinking freshly made juices, your body can absorb the nutrients better than eating whole fruits and vegetables, and it gives your digestive system a rest from working on fiber.

The Mayo Clinic says that juicing can reduce your risk of cancer, boost your immune system, help remove toxins from your body, aid digestion, and help you lose weight. Fresh juices can give you a burst of energy and a clear mind.

There are many juicing recipes online, but here is one of the more popular 3-ingredient cleansing juice recipes: The Lemon Ginger Detox

1 Glass of Water

Juice from ½ Lemon

½ Inch Ginger Root

A WS is what you make it, but simply put, you’re replacing depleting actions, like boozy backyard BBQs, with restorative quality time. It can help you realign your life and help you prioritize differently. In the meantime, you can keep your fingers on the pulse of work responsibilities. The big difference is that you’re working in a healthier, more relaxed environment.
